FAQs
What makes you different from other pt clinics?
I started Mend & Send with a simple vision - to provide Minnesota climbers and athletes with informed, collaborative, sports-specific care.
How? I’m a climber myself, and I use climbing-specific tools in my treatment! After I have helped determine the problem and the source, I then utilize hangboards, finger testing equipment, weights, climbing drills, and much more within my plans for my patients, to ensure not only that their rehab helps them achieve their climbing goals pain-free, but also that they feel stronger overall as a result.
I already know what the injury is. why should I see pt for it?
This is a great question! Answering “what is my injury” is an important step in rehabilitation, and will often get you on the right track, but only so far. Instead, I take one more step and aim to answer, “why did this injury happen?” The answer can be a combination of many things, such as: training volume and intensity, wall angle, grip tendencies, movement habits, even strength or range of motion across the rest of the body.
After an in-depth exam, every plan I create for my patients is different based on why the injury occurred to them specifically. By answering why, we can reduce the risk of that same injury occurring again!
Do I have to be an experienced climber to see you?
Absolutely not, you don’t even technically have to be a climber! While I have treated climbers all across the experience spectrum, from first-timers to industry professionals and elite athletes, I am also comfortable treating just about any orthopedic condition. My focus is certainly on rock climbers, but no one should ever feel excluded from the care I provide.
Do you accept insurance?
Mend & Send is technically out-of-network with all insurance companies. But DON’T PANIC! While insurance is certainly helpful in offsetting your healthcare costs, insurance often resists paying for preventative or performance-oriented care, especially once the patient is pain-free. By being out of network, we can work more widely along the rehab-performance spectrum with no risk of snags.
However, most insurance plans have an out-of-network policy, and may reimburse for out-of-network care. Upon patient request, I can create a superbill, which is a very detailed receipt, that the patient can submit for reimbursement. And if seeing me isn’t feasible, I am more than happy to direct you to other top-tier clinicians in the area who take insurance.
